A captain’s performance sees City cruise to victory: by Chris Darwen
CD Almuñécar City braved the rain for the first time this season as football returned to the Estadio Municipal Francisco Bonet in 2018.
There was a lot of pre-match excitement due to the transfer activity over the last couple weeks. American Sean Morris, a
former Oceania Champions League winner from his time in New Zealand came in for his debut in midfield and Brazilian Thiago de Souza, signed on loan from Granada’s C team FC Cubillas started on the right wing. Adam Spinks returned from injury at right back.
City took some time to get going in the first half as Padul‘s game plan was to sit deep and keep the game at 0-0 for as long as possible. It was an enforced tactical change with Saurav Gopalkrishnan having to go off injured temporarily that swung the game CDAC‘s way. Captain Kasper Mikkelsen moved into a central midfield role and it was his left footed striker that found the bottom corner of the Padul net with five minutes to go before half-time. Mikkelsen repeated the trick in identical fashion moments later, meaning City went into the break 2-0 up.
Once again, the second half started slowly for the home side but once Thiago made it 3-0 to City with a fine finish the floodgates opened. Jermy’s cross found Sean Morris who volleyed home for a debut goal. Tomas Basualdo found space at the far post to head home from a set-piece and in the dying minutes Mikkelsen thumped home a free-kick to complete his hat-trick and a 6-0 win for CD Almuñécar City.
The result means that City, at the very least, will remain 8 points clear of the 3a Andaluza (Granada) and if results go their way on Sunday that gap could get even wider.
Next weekend sees Alhendin Balompie travel to the Estadio Municipal Francisco Bonet. The official league website has this showing as an away fixture for CDAC, but the games were reversed in Jornada 3 where CDAC played away due to the EMFB being unavailable.
The day and time will be confirmed ASAP so please follow the Facebook page for more information.
