Residents and visitors to Salobreña can rest more easily knowing that all the sports personnel, as well as municipal workers, have had a First Aid course.
Over the space of two days last month the said employees were taught how to use the defibrillators – for use in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) – that are installed in the municipal stadium.
After all, you don’t want a linesman running towards you brandishing a defibrillator if you’re just suffering from a sneezing attack, or simply look lifeless and pasty like our Ed. No, defibrillation is not indicated if the patient is conscious or has a pulse. Improperly given electrical shocks can cause dangerous dysrhythmias, such as ventricular fibrillation.
Anyway, the Ed’s disputed pulse activity apart, this initiative belongs to a general training course for all public employees belonging to the Mancomunidad administration
With 1,300 spectators throughout the year using the municipal sports stadium, it is reassuring to know that public employees know how and when to use a defibrillators… for example, they are not recommended for starting cars with flat batteries…
All joking aside, a good move because the more First-Aid knowledge about, the better for all of us.
