A young woman admitted in court on Monday the 11th, behind closed doors, that she had stabbed her own baby to death shortly after giving birth to him.

This took place on the 6th of August 2014 in her flat in Alcoi (Alicante).

The Public Prosecutor has recommended 20-years imprisonment for V.Q.D. for murder. According to him she had hidden her pregnancy from her family, then, at around 14.30h on the said day, she went into labour and had a baby boy in the bath.

Again according to the P.P., she then took a kitchen knife and stabbed the baby. Afterwards she put the body in a rubbish bag, together with the afterbirth and threw it into a rubbish hopper on her street.

When the father of the child came home, accompanied by the woman’s younger brother, she told them that she was not feeling well and that she was going to lie down.

A few hours later, her sister arrived and went in to see her and noticed that she had blood on one of her legs, so she convinced her to go the emergency department at the Hospital Virgen de los Lirios, in Alcoi. The gynaecologist on duty realised that she had recently given birth and repeatedly asked about the whereabouts of the baby.

Although at first she denied that she had given birth, she ended up confessing what had happened to the Policía Nacional.

The jury delivered their verdict on Wednesday the 13th and unanimously declared that the accused was guilty of murder. Consequently, the woman was sentenced to 14-years imprisonment.
