Have you ever seen a galleon? Well, now is your chance because El Galeón Andalucía will remain docked at Motril port from 30/11 to 03/12.
How cool is that – I know; it’s the big kid in me, but a full-size replica of one of those legendary Spanish ships is an impressive sight!
These six-deck, sailing ships plied between Las Americas and Spain during the XVII Century with their gold bullion, keeping an eye out for sneaky English and Dutch pirates.
This is the only galleon replica afloat and it measures 55 metres in length and has already sailed 50,000 nautical miles during its world voyages, flying the Spanish flag. Things have changed a bit because when one of those things turned up outside your port, it was bad news, now it draws the tourists.
It was commissioned by the Fundación Nao Victoria to take part in the Shanghai Universal Expo.
The ship has just come back from North America where it visited 70 port cities such as New York, Washington D.C., Philadelphia, Boston, Chicago, Miami, Toronto and Quebec.
If you want to go aboard and poke around it will cost you five euros – now you know where they got all that gold from – and a bargain it is at half the price! It’s only three euros for kids up to ten; in other words, powder monkeys.
Visiting times are from 10.00h through to 19.00h. You can purchase you entrance ticket at the gangplank or online
