The Almuñécar Town Hall has approved the next step in the renovation of Avenida de Andalucia, which has a budget of 336,944 euros.
The first part of the renovation of the said avenue, which also included the Plaza de Madrid, was completed about 18 months ago, giving the southern end and square their present look. Now the northern end will get the same treatment, giving the whole avenue a uniform appearance.
In the same Town Hall meeting, 180,000 euros was also allocated for turning the Paseo del Altillo road into a 2-way traffic system.
Editorial comment: the amount of money being wasted on the Avenida de Andalucia is astounding. The avenue originally was just a tarmacked road with in-line parking down both sides. Then they ripped up the tarmac, eliminated the parking and resurfaced the road with flat cobble stones, leaving pavements wide enough to land a 747 on.
The cobble stones are a dismal failure, as can been seen on the Altillo road, not to mention being much more expensive than a layer of tarmac.
And now they’re surfacing the pavements with porous sandstone slabs, which were soon completely ruined thanks to bubble-gum and Semana Santa wax coatings on the southern end.
Bring back the tarmac, sensible width pavements and parking.
