MOT Immigrants Rescued 02Last Saturday saw the interception of six craft carrying illegal immigrants, giving a total of over 180 people rescued in one day.

The last one of the day, a small craft with just four men aboard, was tracked and found at 22.30h and brought into Motril Port.

Earlier in the day just after 15.30h Salvamento Marítimo rescue vessel Guardamar Polimnia intercepted three craft; in one instance they had to fish a pregnant women out of the water because the craft was sinking and people were already in the water.

Some of the 180-odd immigrants were taken to Motril Port whilst others were taken to Málaga Port because the immigrant holding centre in Motril Port was already too full.

Another rescue vessel, Salvamar Spica, picked up 35 Sub-Saharan males, followed by seven and then eight immigrants from other craft, which had been located by a Guardia Civil patrol craft.

Yet another immigrant boat was intercepted by a Moroccan naval vessel, as all this a happened in the Mar Alboran, which is halfway between the Spanish and Moroccan coasts.
