Last Minute Golf Reprieve

MOT Los MoriscosThe Motril golf course, Los Moriscos, was set to lose half its holes on the 26th of June at 10 in the morning but some last-minute negotiations stayed the avid hand of Hacienda.

A private company had already been hired to fence in the eight holes.

The reason that the golf course is set to lose the attached land is because its owner  had handed it over to Hacienda to pay off a personal debt – the golf course comprises of two plots of land; the original one and this 8-hole annex.

The new deadline has been set back three months; to the 26th of September. This ‘breather’ is so that the owner of the rest of the holes; i.e., the original part of the then 9-hole, golf course, can come to an arrangement with Hacienda whereby it could be rented back from them, or simply buying it. The owner of Los Moriscos, on the other hand said that he doesn’t have the money or will to buy it.

Hacienda has also offered to cede the land to the Town Hall on the condition that it be turned into a park or some other public use.

Editorial note: having spoken to some golfers that have used the golf course for years; since its original 9-hole set up, it appears that some were not happy with the extra holes because it seems that the golf-course extension was laid out to fit around the then planned housing rather than vice versa.

We would be interested to hear what other golfers think about it?
