Groyne Building Underway

LHR Groyne WorkWith Semana Santa out of the way, heavy machinery has moved in to carry out beach-defence work; i.e., the construction of a groyne as part of a launching ramp for embarkations.

That’s just one task; the other is the erection of wooden posts to prevent motorists parking on the beach, next to the road… almost! Because the wooden posts will be set three metres in to permit in-line or side-by-side parking, depending on the area.

Work began on Monday digging holes for the posts, which will be made from the old railway sleepers that were part of a wooden walkway or paseo that was dismanteld and put into storage some time back.

This works starts next to Chiringuito Bueno and will extend west at least up to where Urbanización Los Novos is.

The projected groyne, which will need 500 cubic metres of stones and cement for the ramp, will be very similar to the one next to the water park in Almuñécar, where Playa Velilla begins.

This work should be finished by the 30th of June, otherwise locals and visitors will not be happy bunnies this first fortnight of July!

Finally, as on previous years, the owners of the building plot for Hotel El Fuerte has ceded the land to the Town Hall to be used as summer parking, the proceeds of which will go to Cáritas who will be running it.
