Hope for Nerja Medical Centre

NRJ Medical Centre PlotFor the last 14 years Nerja has been waiting for its new medical centre and now, finally, it looks like it will happen, pending a category change.

Yes, 22,000 Nerja residents (that’s the official number; the real number is thought to be nearer to 30,000) have their hopes up because in February the Junta and the Town Hall agreed to ‘reactivate’ the project. The previous Mayor, Sr. Armijo, came up with three consecutive locations but to no avail, and now the tripartite governing coalition has proposed a fourth.

This fourth location is actually right next to the second one proposed. After an exchange of paperwork, the Junta has pronounced the magic words, “the new location is ideal.” This is where you throw your hands in the air and hop around on one foot in a frenzy of glee, by the way.

Now all the Town Hall has to do is to make sure that the plot has the right building category.

The said second plot is behind Mercadona, next to Río Chillar, which has until now been used for parking. The Junta, however, pointed out that the land was prone to flooding and was therefore unsuitable. The ex-Mayor, however, to this day claims that the plot has never been nor will be ‘prone to flooding.’
