The EBAR (sewage pumping station) has been causing a stink in Salobreña, but not anymore, because an anti-pong device has been fitted.
The installations, which are situated near Urbanización Mare Nostrum in the beach area, now has a ‘biological deoderant’ system using pseudomonas (bacteria) that drastically reduce the hydrogen sulfide content in sewage – think ‘rotten eggs.’
The gadget consists of three boxes, not just one, because of the ’summer work load.’
The Mayor is a happy bunny because residents of the area have long complained about the ‘aroma’ emanating from the sewage-pumping station. After three meetings with them as well as with engineers from the Mancomunidad, the solution has been found… at least, everybody hopes it has – we’ll have to wait to the other side of summer to know for sure.
