A British drink-driver caused injuries to nine people in Marbella yesterday evening when he drove down a pedestrian street in the Puerto Banús area of the town.

According to one account, the 22-year old had quarreled in a well-known beach club before getting into a high-range 4×4.

From there he went directly along the Paseo Lola Flores hitting three pedestrians before getting on the N-370 heading towards Marbella. This was between 21.00h and 21.15h.

In an attempt to escape the Guardia Civil road block, he crashed over into the oncoming carriageway and hit four vehicles before returning onto the correct carriageway only to hit a crash barrier near Hotel Coral Beach, where he was arrested.

In the meantime ambulances were mobilized from the Las Albarizas medical centre and the injured taken to the Hospital Costa del Sol.

The Guardia Civil arrested both the driver and a passenger.
