Knee to the Groin

On the 22nd of June, four policemen from the Policía Nacional will come before the magistrate, accused of beating up an alleged wife-beater.

The man, who lost a testicle as a result of being kneed several times in the groin, also stands before a magistrate accused of wife-beating, facing a recommendation of 15 months imprisonment.

The incident took place on the 11th of January in Albaicín (Granada) after a police patrol received instructions to intervene in what had been reported as a case of domestic violence.

When they reached the address it was to find a man shouting, “Forget me, I don’t want you anywhere near me,” at a woman.

The policeman asked the man to identify himself, which he refused to do, according to the police report, “showing open distain for the authority of the police.” The man said that he wasn’t carrying his ID and that even if he were, there was no way he was going to show it to them.

To further emphasise his reluctance to cooperate, he said, “I don’t have to tell you anything, Filth – you want to drop my pants and touch my balls.” It might be worth pointing out that an interpretation rather than a translation of his comment would be, “you just want to piss me about.”

Again, according to the police, he then tried to hit one of the policemen, who managed to dodge the blow.

At this point the policemen allegedly, “crossed the line of legality,” considers the P.P., in other words, they laid into him. In the words of the P.C., “Whilst some held the prison, another kneed him in the groin, producing a howl of pain, which did not stop a second blow to same anatomical region.”

The Public Prosecutor recommends two years imprisonment for each of the four policemen.
