Well, it wasn’t really an military assault, admittedly, but rather a musical performance by military musicians – disappointing, I know, for military-uprising enthusiasts.
The Unidad Música from the the Academia de Infantería received three encores for their efforts on the night of Friday the 19th in Almuñécar, which was part of the Spanish Armed Forces Week and was their third concert in the province.
And it’s a good job that they did do well because the big boss was there in the form of the Commanding Officer of the Southern Command, (MADOC), who dutifully thanked the Mayor for the town’s hospitality, whom he presented with a plaque. The Mayor, not to be outdone, presented him with a book of old photos of the town.
As for the repetoir, amongst the numbers was Bandietenstreken by Franz Von Suppé and the pasodoble, Almuñecar by Timoteo Urrengoechea.
So, everybody was happy, nobody was shot and the musicians lived to play another day.
