Salobreña Castle News

SAL Castle visit OnLThe Mayor of Salobreña said that they hope to have the castle completely open for Easter, with the whole monument being accessible.

She says that she feels that the Cultural Department of the Junta will accept the Town Hall’s proposed measures to guarantee the safety of the new finds in castle; specifically, the Arab baths.

What’s been holding things up is the requisite imposed by the Junta, which was to hire a security guard to watch over the Arab baths. However, the Town Hall can not afford the cost of such an arrangement.

Mayor María Eugenia Rufino proposed instead a CCTV security system instead. This would be accompanied by a sort of handrail barrier which would surround yet at the same time not block the view.

She also spoke about the street on Calle Rosario, Calle Juan XXIII and Calle Ladera de la Cruz in the old town, which was to start at the beginning of the year. It appears that a problem with the water tank on Calle Antequera has caused the project to be put on hold.

An inspection was carried out on the water tank about a couple of months ago, which found a crack. Consequently, barrier were erected around the access point. This also meant that events planned for the summer on the Paseo de las Flores will have to be cancelled or relocated.

She assured, however, that there would be no related water-supply problems for the town. The other old-town, water tank, which is next to the Radio Salobreña station was to be decomissioned but it has been decided to keep it as an emergency standby should there be a supply problem arise during the repair work on the Calle Antequera one.
