Almuñécar Dolphin Rescue

alm-beached-dolphin-2016-onlThe Almuñécar beach-maintenance crews came across a stranded dolphin this morning but after an hour of work, they managed to return her to the sea. The incident took place down the Tesorillo end of Playa Velilla.

The 5-metre-long beastie required the help of a tractor as well as many helping hands to move her into shallow water.

“It was just past eight in the morning when we came across the beached animal. At first we thought that it was dead, but when we approached we could see it moving it’s tail fin,” explained one of the workers.

They got straight on to the Environment Department at the Town Hall in order to activate the protocol dealing with such incidents.

As soon as the dolphin was in the water, she swam towards deeper water, under her own steam.

This one had a happy ending because the majority of beach discoveries are rotting corpses.
