Bus Station Delayed

mot-bus-station-signing-onlMotril’s elusive, new bus station now won’t be operating until half way through January – it was due to open this month, originally, as announced here.

Valeriano Díaz, who is the regional manager for the company that will run the installations, signed the agreement with the Mayor, Flor Almón. Also present was a gaggle of camera-keen councillors.

The reason that the bus station want open until the 16th appears to be that the building still needs electricity; i.e., the company has to sign a contract with the utility company and, of course, sign a contract with the water company for a mains supply.

Another reason for not opening until mid January is that the company thought it best to let the fiestas pass as a changeover could complicate the elevated passenger traffic associated with Christmas, New Year and Three Kings.

The Councillor for Mobility, María Ángeles Escámez, announced that Motril is thinking about setting up new bus stops around town, such as one for the Hospital Santa Ana.

Anyway, disappointment apart, the important thing is the new bus station will be up and running, at last!
