The Motril Town Hall has begun a campaign to inform cortijo owners in the municipality about the new rubbish-collection tax to be levied on them.
The Councillor for the Municipal Tax Office, Francisco Sánchez-Cantalejo, explained that the present governing party has merely limited itself to putting in place an arrangement put together by the previous PP Town Council.
Sr. Sánchez Cantalejo emphasizes that this charge was approved during a Plenary Meeting of the Town Council in 2013 (when the Mayor was Luisa García Chamorro) and that it is being put into place now because it wasn’t until last year that the Catastro register was updated.
He also pointed out that the charge that is to be levied is the lowest one possible for rubbish-collection and that in order to minimise the inconvenience caused to cortijo owners is “only” going to cover 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016, leaving out “previous years.”
He went on to explain that this measure is another step in the direction of legalising cortijos.
Lastly, Sr. Sánchez-Cantalejo said that to make these payment easier, they are going to permit cortijo owners to break it up into twelve or more monthly payments. In order to pay this way, you must request it at the Town Hall.
