Rescued from Cliff Face

lhr-cliff-rescue-02-onlA maritime-rescue helicopter winched a man to safety this morning from a cliff face below the Punta de la Mona in La Herraura.

According to the Policía Municipal, a crew member of a passing boat spotted the man, who was signalling for help, and phoned the emergency 112 number. The exact location is an area known to local fishermen as Piedra Lisa, next to La Testa.

The emergency control centre alerted the Guardia Civil, as well as the fire service and Maritime Rescue; the latter based in Motril Port.

lhr-cliff-rescue-01Given the impossibility of rescuing the man from below, the helicopter was called in to lift the man off the cliff.

The man, 32-year-old V.E.F. from the city of Granada, had been taking photos of the cliff and after finding himself in difficulties had decided to stay put rather than risking an ascent.

Although the man appeared to be in good health, out of protocol he was taken to the area hospital in Motril for a check up.
