Fly-Posting Crackdown

screen-shot-2016-10-23-at-04-12-37The Department of Environment is determined to crack down on the putting up of publicity on street furniture, such as lampposts and litter bins etc. This practice, commonly known as fly-posting, is getting right up the noses of
the Almuñécar Town Hall bigwigs.

If your life ever becomes so sad that you feel the urge to check out local laws for Almuñécar and La Herradura, you might stumble across Article 44 of the Municipal Regulations regarding cleanliness, ‘placing posters and/or stickers outside or on municipal billboards for publicity purposes except where expressly authorized by the municipal authority is prohibited.’

Riveting stuff, we’re sure you’ll agree, however, some people might wish that the powers that be were just as angry and determined about the piles of dog poo in our towns. The combination of constantly staring at the floor to avoid putrid, pooch piles while at the same time dodging people texting as they walk is becoming a nightmare.

Right, back to the fly-posting: Municipal cleaners have been removing posters and in some places putting up stickers warning that fly-posting is ‘forbidden and punishable by a fine’. So, they’re fly-posting to prevent fly-posting… it’s either a cunning ploy or just daft.

Anyway, they are saying that they will not punish anyone at the moment, but that after the warnings, the advertisers may well find themselves slapped with a fine… no doubt the relevant paperwork will be stuck on the wall outside the offenders house. Just kidding…
