The suspects; locals aged 31 and 32, had previously worked in these establishments, therefore they knew them inside out; i.e., location of the alarms & cameras and what exactly was being kept in the storerooms. This inside knowledge helped them get in and back out in very little time.
The modus operandi was to force a door or window, causing considerable damage, and sweep up bottles of expensive spirits and wines, frozen food, fresh meat and kitchen equipment of little weight.
Police investigation finally turned up the identities of the suspects and they were soon located and arrested. Although the arrested men admitted to the burglaries the stolen goods have not turned up, because the men explained that they had sold the ‘loot’ almost immediately.
The police investigation remains active as it is now concentrating on tracking down the stolen goods, which could result in more arrests.
