Orgiva Mayor in Court

The Mayor of Órgiva, María Ángeles Blanco, says that she believes in the Justice System and that soon she will be cleared of any misdoings accusations.

“I’m very calm because I have never committed nor will commit any irregularities in the Town Hall, nor in any administration,” she said.

She also expressed her surprise that her case is being tried under the Penal Law Code rather than the Civil Law Code.

She considers that the PP opposition party has made claims without foundation and that they have chosen to do so right before the election for electoral advantages.

The Mayor has been charged with urban-development misconduct, general prevarication and a breach of duty to prosecute administrative wrongdoings. A private citizen is suing the municipal legal department for legalizing, or not, rural properties without following proper procedure.

The judge decided to include her in the case as Mayor; i.e., maximum responsible of the municipal administration.
