A bronze sculpture that was unveiled at Motril’s Santa Ana Hospital has been stolen after less than a fortnight from its inauguration.
The hospital authorities and the Asociación de Enfermos Renales de la Costa y Alpujarra (ACERCOA) can’t believe that somebody has done such a thing… much less after such a short time.
The solid bronze sculpture weighing 17 kilo was funded by the said kidney-patient association and erected in honour of kidney donors across the country.
The Chairman of the ACERCOA, Federico Maya, made an appeal to the light-fingered culprit, whoever it may be: “Please, get in contact with us and return it and we will give you more than it’s worth because it has a greater sentimental value for us; it reflects the goodness and generosity of Mankind who is capable of saving lives.”
The Chairman has reached out to scrap merchants, asking them to contact the association should they come across “suspicious movements;” i.e., should somebody try to sell them a sculpture of grasped hands (by the sculptor, Eligio Otero).
Editorial Note: I would personally like to add, “whoever you are, you’re lower than a snakes belly.”
