From the 15th of June to the 15th of September visitors will not be able to park within the Salobreña dependency of La Guardia. Only those that have garages there, and authorized vehicles (traders) will be afforded access.
The Councillor for La Caleta, Gabriel Jerónimo, has limited the use of the road to La Guardia for safety reasons and to avoid excess traffic flow to this urban satellite area. However, visitors will be able to park in a designated area to the right of the access lane leading into La Guardia.
In other words, it has nothing to do with the construction work going on in the vega area but is rather a pilot scheme that could be implemented every summer.
The Chief of Police, Alberto Sánchez, explained that it is a new idea to avoid the summer chaos caused by the single lane access to La Guardia. He pointed out that emergency vehicles like ambulances have had difficulty getting to the urban centre on previous occasions.
However, during the first weeks after it comes into force the police will be carrying out an “informative roll” rather than a punitive one.
