This month I get the chance to speak about another of my favourite places and this time it’s about a fantastic, friendly restaurant bar in Otivar, Bar Madera, which is on the main road just opposite the bank.
Run by two brothers, Vicente and Antonio, with the irreplaceable help of their wives, Loli and Eva, Bar Madera consistently and faithfully turn out great dishes… and I mean good, honest food. Everybody in the village knows what a great chef Loli is – I eat there every Monday and have never, ever, been disappointed.
With a spacious dining room enjoying views of the valley, the restaurant can fit a small army in and their horses too, but with these summer evenings on the way, the roof terrace really does give you one of the best views of Valle Río Verde below, where you can feast your eyes as well as your stomachs.
Otivar has a small, well integrated community of foreigners and you can ask any one of them whether I am exaggerating or not and they will tell you that, I’m not! One of them is a veteran, ex-Army Catering Corps chef – Hi, Trevor & June; thanks for the BBQ invite! – so you can certainly rely on his opinion.
Great food, great atmosphere, great views, great location, so what are you waiting for?
