The weekend of the 14th/15th saw divers from around Andalucia, as well as other parts of Spain at a gathering in the Marina del Este to support marine conservation.

The event was organized by the conservationist association called Equilibrio Marino, with the collaboration of the Almuñécar Town Hall.

Councillor Caballero was at the event and reminded those present that the La Herradura waters will host the Europa de Fotografía Submarina in October this year, followed in the future by the Campeonato de España.

The Head of Equilibrio Marino, Fernando Alarcón, said, “The latest scientific investigation show that if the marine-live reserves are efficiently protected, within five years there will be a boom in marine life in general,” However, he pointed out that despite a lack of resources from the various administrations, local pollution and illegal fishing, a “sustainable model” is emerging thanks to eco-tourism in form of scuba diving.
