Two Romanian sisters were rescued by the Policia Nacional in Sevilla after having been sold by their parents for 1,700 euros.

The girls, aged 13 and 15, had been forced to marry and then sent to Spain, where they were put to work on the land, made to collect scrap and beg.

A total of seven people were arrested in connection with this, all from two different clans. One of the girls also suffered physical abuse at the hands of her 18-year-old ‘husband.’

The girls have both been taken into care after receiving medical and psychological assistance.

The police at first tracked down one girl, who told them that her father had sold her for the equivalent of 650 euros. She also told them that previous to this he had sold her younger sister for 1,100 euros.

The girls were both given a false ID in order to work as farmhands, so those arrested not only face charges of people trafficking, physical and mental abuse, but also forgery.
