Cañar Brit Arrested

ALP Postal Drug Smuggling OnLA 57-year-old Brit in Cañar (La Alpujarra) has been arrested for attempting to send a postal package to Germany containing five kilos of marihuana.

There is an arrangement between the Spanish Post Office and the Guardia Civil whereby should a suspicious package be detected, the police are immediately informed, who then take custody of it.

The said parcel was detected in Lanjarón post office, which was destined for Merzig in Germany, so a Judicial Police Unit was dispatched from Órgiva.

The parcel was taken to the law courts in Órgiva for inspection where it was found to contain 16 vacuum-packed, plastic bags with over 300 grams of marihuana in each.

They soon tracked down the sender – when you send a package, you have to fill in your details. Upon searching his cortijo they found a machine for vacuum packaging and a supply of bags identical to the ones used in the parcel.

Editorial Comment: Why does it always seem to be foreigners that get caught doing this? Too many foreign residents underestimate the Spanish, perhaps and think this is still Spain from the 70’s.
