The Police have arrested a Romanian man, accused of setting alight a lean-to with his wife inside, using a container filled with gasoline.

The incident occurred on the night of Saturday the 2nd of April on a piece of wasteland used as a shantytown near Almería.

When the police arrived it was to find the victim, 29-year-old A. S. B., standing outside the blaze with her body covered in burns. She explained that her husband had caused the fire and then fled the scene on a bicycle. She then lost consciousness and collapsed.

The alleged culprit was located after he attended the Hospital El Toyo to have the burns on his hands treated – he claimed that they were acid burns. The hospital immediately contacted the police who arrested him.
