Maro Underwater Museum

NRJ Lanzarote underwater museumThe title sounds misleading but it’s not, as the idea is to promote the seabed off the Acantilados de Maro-Cerro Gordo. Read on.

The Nerja Town Hall and the Centro de Buceo de Nerja have shared a similar ambition of creating artificial reefs, etc, in the said area for quite some time but now it might just be getting off the drawing board at last.

The Head of the Centro de Buceo, Bernabé Jorge Toledo, had a meeting with the new Mayor, Rosa Arrabal (PSOE) and the Councillor for the Environment, Jorge Bravo (IU), last week to look into the idea.

Also at the meeting was one of the actors from the Nerja-based TV series from the 80’s, Verano Azul. Said actor, Miguel Joven, has been very active pushing  projects linked to Nerja Tourism.

Now, the underwater museum would be along the lines of the one recently opened in Lanzarote; the first of its kind in Europe. In the said underwater 400 sculptures by the British artist Jason de Caires were set down at 12 metres depth.
