The Almuñécar Town Hall maintenance brigade has been busy working on the stone balustrade along the Altillo/Prieto Moreno seafront.
You see the sea air and spray have completely rusted the iron pins that hold each vertical piece in place. Consequently, each one had to be drilled out and stainless-steel pins inserted.
Would have been cheaper to string an electric cow-fence along the paseo – that would stop the tourists falling over the top and frightening children and small dogs with their wailing.
Anyway… This little job will cost 5,000 euros, explained the Head of the Maintenance Department, Francisco Alba, and that doesn’t include the man hours.
There is a bit of a rush on because with Semana Santa just panting to spring upon us, our hooded friends will be doing wheelies along that seafront road with their collective head furniture; i.e., Easter thrones, and those sidewalks will be packed.
Yes, yes, “sidewalks” is American and “pavements” is British but you will notice that the Gazette didn’t burst into flames in your outraged hands in blistering indignation.
Note: Does it show that we photoshopped this press-release photo from the Town Hall… 😉
