A Brit, Chisel & Lump-hammer

ORG Guardia Civil Post2 OnLIt would be correct to use ‘allegedly,’ but as a CCTV clearly showed the thief attempting to break a shop window, is could be considered superfluous.

The case is that the Orgiva Guardia Civil have arrested a 36-year-old Englishman after reportedly attempting to break into four different business premises around Órgiva.

The suspect was ‘armed’ with a chisel, lump-hammer and bucket (espuerta). He used the hammer & chisel to try and break locks in the first two targets and in the other two, to break the reinforced shop windows. The large rubber bucket or basket was for the envisaged ‘loot.’

This all occurred four three days, each time in the early morning, between the 21st and 24th of October. Day one was reserved for two shops in Calle Correo and Avda González Robles. His attempts were thwarted by the presence of passing cars.

The following days, according to the Guardia Civil, he tried to force the drum of the shop-door lock and with a crowbar forced the metal shutters on a food shop.

It was difficult for the police to track the suspect down because he was a foreigner with no local criminal record and had not been living in Órgiva very long but once he was identified and his dwelling place located, the Guardia Civil searched it and come up with two chisels, a lump-hammer and a rubber basket/bucket, all clearly identifiable in the CCTV images.

Consequently, he was arrested and charged with four attempted break-ins.
