A woman went to a hospital in Alicante after 15 days without being able to defecate, only to be sent home without a CAT scan.
She died five hours later from a perforated colon caused by fecaloma.
Consequently, the Tribunal Superior de Justicia in the autonomous region of Valencia has sentenced the Valencia Health Board to pay 60,000 to her family in compensation.
The case against the Valencia Health Board was brought by the victim’s daughter, whose claim had previously been rejected in February 2013 by the Sub-Secretary for Health.
