One week after the news of the Spanish helicopter accident taking place and one whole week of desperate hope, the bodies of the three crew were found inside the wreckage of their aircraft on the seabed.
On the day of the accident, the 22nd of October, the Spanish Defence Minister announced that the crew had been rescued by a Moroccan fishing boat after receiving this information from the Moroccan Government. However, the Moroccans back peddled and apologised for the error, 24 hours later.
The search & rescue mission was immediately relaunched after having been called off thinking that they were safe.
Time ticked by and the Minister of Defence announced that although they had not written off any possibilities – i.e., they hadn’t a clue – they were looking into the possibility that they had been picked up but taken hostage.
Owing to the depth at which the wreckage was resting – 40 metres – a well as the weather conditions and the presence of sharks, the Spanish Navy was having difficulties in checking that there were no bodies in the cabin. However, just hours ago, the Minister of Defence announced that, unfortunately, the bodies of the crew had been located within the wreckage.
