Motril Market Problems

motrll municipal marketMeanwhile, over in Motril, the Partido Popular are demanding that the Mayor solves the cold-storage problem in the municipal market.

The PP Spokeswoman, Mª Luisa García Chamorro (ex Mayor) said, “It’s incredible that in an institution such has the Mercado Municipal, with decades of history behind it, where there have never been problems, there should be so many problems in just the first four months of the present Mayor’s administration, because of incompetence.”

Sra. García Chamorro has expressed her total support to the stall holders and claimed that despite repeated requests for reports on the situation, her party has received none from the Town Council.

So what’s the problem with the cold-storage room?

It seems that the Town Council wants to privatize the cold-storage service and subsequently the 3-monthly charge for the market’s maintenance has risen.

Some months ago when one of the storage rooms broke down, one of the stall holders footed the bill to have it fixed, who immediately blocked other stall holders from sharing it. Consequently, the Town Council issued an edict which established that the maintenance and cost of possible break downs should shared by all the stall holders.

This move, according to Sra. García Chamorro goes again the by-laws governing the municipal markets and is tremendously unfair.

Consequently, Sra García has asked the Mayor to rectify the situation, giving back the stall holders the use of the cold-storage rooms without having to pay the running costs and repairs, as laid down in the local by-laws.
