Motril’s Promised Tax Cuts

SAL Councillor Hacienda OnLReacting, perhaps, to the surge of discontent over the price of bar-terrace taxes, the Town Hall has announced several cuts.

The Councillor for the Economy and Tax Office, Francisco Sánchez-Cantalejo, spoke of a series of measures that will come about during 2016, including “significant tax cuts for motrileños and local businesses.”

“Before the 31st of July, this administration requested before the Central Government permission for Motril to lower its IBI rates; local property tax, by 18%,” explained the Councillor.

A lower IBI will also mean less capital-gains tax if selling a property, as well as affecting positively inheritance tax and personal tax.

The 18% won’t be applied all at once, owing to the state of the municipal coffers – it’s 50m euros in debt – but the plan is to apply a 5% reduction during 2016.

As for bar/restaurant terrace taxes (Ocupación del Dominio Público) it will be reduced by 27%, as requested by the hostelry sector.

Furthermore, rubbish-collection rates will be reduced by 10% for those in the horticultural/fruit farming sector that decide to set up shop in Motril as fruit-clearing warehouses.

Finally, empty business premises will have their rubbish-collection rate cut by 50%.
