Marine Watch Network

ALM Underwater Vigilantes OnLThere now exists a free phone app called Marnoba for reporting rubbish on the beaches and on the seabed.

Everybody from divers to beach walkers, including local fishermen, can use this phone app to alert the authorities to the presence of mindless dumping.

La Red de Vigilantes Marinos (Marine Watch Network) comprises of more than 600 divers around Spain, dedicated to keeping our waters clean. Almuñécar was chosen as the presentation location for the project launch last Saturday at the Casa de la Cultura.

The R.V.M. is the brainchild of the NGO, Oceánidas, jointly developed together with the Área de Medio Marino, which itself belongs to the Federación Española de Actividades Subacuáticas (Fedas).

The before-mentioned event also included the presentation of the said app, Marnoba.

The following day, Sunday, the theory was put to practice on La Herradura beach, as reported in a previous article.

But there is still more to come as on the 24th and 25th, the majority of the network members from almost all of the autonomous regions of Spain will participate in the Gran Limpieza del Medio Marino.

Anyway, great idea and kudos to these volunteers for their idea, time, effort and dedication!
