A 61-year-old man has died when he was caught in a flash flood in Casarones (Rubite) on the eastern Costa Tropical.
First reports speak of the man being a watchman for an area of plastic green houses, finding himself surprised by the appearance of a torrent of water coming down the dry riverbed and took refuge in his car. However, the car was swept away.
The victim’s body, a resident of Gualchos, was found on Polopos beach.
Flash-flood waters also washed away a total of seven vehicles along the Rambla de la Rábita.
In the Contravesia area several stretches of road have been closed by the Guardia Civil after rockfalls caused obstacles: the GR-6203 in Sorvilán, the old N-323 between kilometre points 167-175 in Izbor, the GR-5203 (KM 4) in sorvilán, the A-4131, shut in Salas, and the N-340 between KM 364 and KM 365 in Los Yesos.
Heavy machinery belonging to the provincial council is working to clear the obstructions.
