An off duty member of the Basque regional police (Ertzaina) allegedly shot dead a lorry driver from Motril after a heated argument.

The victim, 39-year-oldn Jesús Madrigal Burgos, employee of TransArmilla Cargo, lost his life at the access A-15 junction for Leitza yesterday (4th) at 13.19h.

The policeman concerned has been arrested by his colleagues on the force.

First reports speak of an argument which ended with the policeman getting out of his car and shooting the lorry driver dead, discharging several rounds to the head.

The veteran policeman in his 50’s, who had also been a lorry driver before joining the Basque police, had been on his way to work in Tolosa, and allegedly used a privately owned pistol.
