The Guardia Civil Mountain Rescue Service came to the rescue of a man, his wife and their 6-month old baby at the bottom of a ravine.
The incident occurred around 09.45h on Friday the 29th of May in the Arroyo Molino in Algarinejo (Poniente de Granada) whilst the family from New Zealand were out on a walk.
The mother, who had the child in a harness, slipped and tumbled 20 metres down the side of the barranco. The father, who tried to reach them, also lost his balance and ended up at the bottom with them.
The woman had fractured her hip, as well as having suffered other injuries. Fortunately, she had managed to shield the baby as much as possible with her own body so that the child only had a small cut on its forehead. The father had a sprained ankle.
A helicopter was used to rescue the mother & baby whilst the father was brought out by conventional means – all were attended to at one of the main hospitals (San Cecilio) in Granada.
