The Spanish police and the Spanish Navy boarded a fishing boat 1,480km off the Canary Islands with just under two tonnes of cocaine aboard.

The boat, Walrus, flying a Palau (an island group in the Pacific) flag, was allegedly bringing the illegal cargo to Spain.

The captain, who the police had already suspected to be involved in drug running, is a Dutch resident on the Costa del Sol.

The Captain and his crew; three citizens of Cabo Verde, were arrested soon after the boat was boarded by the Spanish Navy vessel, Meteoro (See photo).
