The PP under Mayor Luisa García Chamorro won the most votes, giving them ten council seats. However, they lost their absolute majority.
Ranged against her are the seven seats belonging to the PSOE and three belonging to the IU; a total of ten, as well.
The deciding factor is the PA with five seats, which could swing either way.
However, it is not only a local decision because nearby Almuñécar is divided between the PP and the PA, who are completely opposed. Furthermore, the Almuñécar PA candidate, Juan Carlos Benavides, is one of the PA’s strongest players, if not the strongest.
Lastly, the voting turnout was barely over 50% – perhaps from voting fatigue after the recent regional elections.
