A fire broke out around 15.30h this afternoon next to the Barrio Los Corrales area of La Herradura. It appears somebody had been burning cuttings.
The Almuñécar fire service, Guardia Civil and Policia Local all answered the emergency call, and it took three hours to bring under control.
Before the fire was brought under control, it had moved westwards reaching above Urbanización San Nicolás close to several outlying homes. It was the access lanes to these home that initially provided a natural firebreak.
However, elevated temperatures and a breeze caused the fire to change direction and head north west.
Around five in the afternoon air units were called in in the form of a helicopter to water bomb the fire.
The fire was declared out at 19.00h, but not before four people had to be evacuated from their homes.

Thanks, Jane – we’ve managed to get some photos from our friend Juan Manuel de Haro 😉
Sorry, but we can’t help with photos at the moment. I’ve broken my hip & am in a wheelchair. My daughter just saved her car yesterday during the fire! It was parked outside our house on Calle Los Corrales, La Herradura.
Some of our neighbours in Calle Los Corrales may have photos of yesterday’s fire. We think there were about 40 people from various emergency services attending the fire plus local police & Guardia Civil. Hope this information helps.
