Most readers will have read about the German armed forces being saddled with thousands of defective HK G36 assault rifles; Spain has 70,000 of its own.
Yes, the Spanish Armed Forces acquired 70,000 Heckler & Koch G36‘s to replace the tired but trusted CETME – anybody that did La Mili will remember the dear old CETME.
The German Defence Minister, Ursula von der Leyden said that the design was flawed or better said, “had no future,” yet the Spanish Minister of Defence says that the Spanish Army had not had any problems with them.
Basically, it seems that when they get hot, you can shoot around corners with them, so accuracy goes out of the window. Seriously though, according to the official report, after two shots the accuracy of the weapon went down to 53%
The Spanish ministry says that they are “surprised” by the official German report but said that they would not be carrying out an investigation: “every arm goes through an annual inspection and to date no fault has been detected.”
The HK G36 is made under licence in A Coruña in Galicia at the Santa Bárbara arms factory… so maybe they got something wrong… right!
