Provincial representative for the Central Government, Santiago Pérez, also said that they were drawing up projects to protect the coastline using breakwaters.
First, though, he told everybody how wonderful the Dirección General de Costas and his department have been at getting things together. He said that the Ministry of the Environment had calculated the sums needed to put right the damage caused from La Rábita through to Almuñécar.
Sr. Pérez said that work would commence between the 10th and 15th of March – they had had to wait until the winter storms had passed – and would count on a budget of 847,000 euros for the Salobreña promenade, the stonework, sea defences and beach in Velilla (Almuñécar) and the regeneration of beaches in La Rábita and Castell de Ferro.
Editorial Comment: has anybody thought to mention to Sr. Pérez that Semana Santa begins at the end of this month? Wouldn’t it not have been better to start after Easter instead of having half the paseo cut off by roadworks?
