At the request of the town’s taxi drivers, the taxi rank will be increased from eight to 15 places, one of which will be outside the hospital.
In fact, there will be taxi rank spots in other areas of town, as well as the hospital and next to the gasoline station: Plaza de las Palmeras, Avenida San Agustín, next to the municipal market, Rambla de las Brujas, next to Al Campo and the Rambla de los Álamos.
There will also be a taxi waiting spots next to the Plaza de los Toros, the municipal fairground and outside the Centro de Desarrollo Turístico, as it will be the future Palacio de Congresos (conference hall), explained the Mayor, Luisa García Chamorro.
Another new addition will be taximeters, which should be up and running within a fortnight. This should provide unified pricing. Furthermore all taxis will have GPS localization so that the nearest taxi to a call out can be located and dispatched.
As for the pricing, the Town Council is studying the taxi pricing in other Andalusian municipalities with similar characteristics to Motril.
Furthermore, all Motril taxis will have a municipal logo on the side.
The Chairman of Radiotaxi Motril, Juan Carlos Manzano, is a happy bunny over the changes, and adds that they are contemplating allowing payments using bank cards and developing a mobile phone app to facilitate hiring a taxi by using the GPS location of the caller’s phone.
