Almuñècar Road Rage

roadworksignPicture the scene; the roundabout on Av. Juan Carlos outside Sol Bank at the junction of Calle Hurtado de Mendoza in Almuñécar, a delivery driver is standing by his van, systematically banging his head against the side of his vehicle.

A ‘guiri-loaded’ rental car from Málaga is stationary on the roundabout, with the driver and his wife sobbing uncontrollably in the front seats, whilst the horn-blaring traffic builds up behind them.

One of Almuñécar’s finest local policemen has drawn his weapon and is raising it slowly to his temple, with eyes reminiscent of a Vietnam vet’s ‘thousand-yard stare.’

OK, we may have exaggerated the scene, slightly, but the continued closure of Calle Hurtado de Mendoza in Almuñécar has caused a myriad of problems, not least to the businesses on Paseo Puerta del Mar. Oh, did we forget to mention that it’s closed from the bridge to Paseo Altillo as well?

Deliveries to the businesses on and just off this main beach road are all but impossible, especially at the Paseo Altillo end.

So how long can we expect this disruption to continue? It may be better to ask, how many pages does a traffic warden’s pad contain? However, we will do our best to keep you informed.

By the way, if you’ve heard any local Almuñécar rumors that the speed cameras are not working or even being checked, due to the budget cuts.  Let me inform you that they are indeed working, especially the one near Aqua Tropic – the 50-euro hole in my bank account can attest to that fact! Gloom…
