The Salobreña Town Hall has decided to evict the parked camper homes from La Guardia and El Gambullón area (at the back of the Peñon end).
They were given 24 hours warning before the police moved in and the camper home visitors moved on with no fuss.
The Mayor said that it is not that the town does not want this kind of tourism, but that it must conform to certain conditions.
It is the lack of these conditions: electricity, running water, sewers, that motived the Town Hall to act before they received a complaint (or law case) from the Spanish and Andalusian federation of campsites.
The Council has been working on a prepared campsite for camper homes behind the Avenida de Andalucía, which has an extension of 300,000 sq/m. There is an Almuñécar company behind the project but there is still a lot of paperwork to go.
The said piece of land has been standing empty for a while owing to a court case between the Town Hall and a group of landowners – they had bought it because the Council of the day had promised to recategorize it as urban development land for housing. However, this element of the PGOU (municipal urban development plan) was dropped.
The outcome of the case was in the Council’s favour – anyway, it’s a long story, so let’s see if it takes off.
