An 8-year-old boy lost his life attempting to save his pet dog from drowning in the sea on Saturday the 8th.

The incident occurred in the north east of Spain in the province of Gerona, more specifically in the coastal town of Aiguablava de Begur.

The boy fell into the water himself trying to reach the dog. An older boy of twelve tried unsuccessfully to reach the lad, later joined by two fishermen.

The boy was fished out already in a critical state and later died in hospital.

No mention of what happened to the dog is given.
