The Almuñécar, socialist, opposition party has loudly criticised what they see as an unjustifiable squandering of public funds on the N-340 roundabout below Los Pinos.

Josué Díaz from the PSOE said that they consider that this is not the time to spend 20,000 euros improving the appearance of a roundabout and that the money would have been better employed on social welfare projects for the town’s needy.

The said embellishment of the roundabout took the form of paving over the surface area and erecting a breeze block square pillar around the flood-lighting support post, little work, in reality, for 20,000 euros.

In fact, Sr. Díaz pointed out that the said work could have been done for much less had they used municipal workers and materials instead of hiring a building company.

Editorial comment: unnecessary expense doing up an unnecessary roundabout.
