New Acquisition for Motril Port

solar compactor, motril portThe Chairman of the Motril Port Authorities, Francisco Álvarez de la Chica, has been showing off a compactor or crusher powered by solar energy.

This machinery is meant for waste produced by the fishing industry; i.e., the Motril fishing fleet. The motivation behind it is to eliminate bad smells… the stench, more accurately. It is also to avoid a health hazard.

The original project, known as Aguas Litorales Limpias y Solidarias is a pioneering one in Europe and is coordinated by Cádiz University professor, Enrique Montero, and is financed by European Funds and the Junta de Andalucía.

This piece of equipment is the first of its kind to be operative in Spain, acquired from Equipamientos Ambientales, S.L. for 36,875 euros plus IVA.

The photo features the Port Chairman showing the first and last time he’ll every go near it, so perhaps it would have been more apt had a fisherman been featured instead of this gentleman… just saying!
